Three Day Trips to See the Real Catalonia

If you have decided on a Catalonia holiday, you have probably been swayed by reputation of the region’s fantastic cities. Now, don’t get us wrong – places like Barcelona and Girona are must-visit locations. Full of history and culture, you’ll never run out of things to do and places to see when you visit them. But Catalonia is much more than its cities.

Let us introduce you to three of our most popular one-day Catalonia cycle tours. Days out that give you a taste of the real Catalonia, away from the hubbub of commercial tourism, and into authentic Catalan country.

Three Fully Guided Cycle Rides for Terrific Days Out and About

Our single-day cycle tours in Catalonia are centred on Barcelona. You’ll start out and return to the city, and do so with the aid of a fully experienced guide the whole route. You’ll see the countryside, the coast, and even visit one of the region’s top wineries.

These tours have been designed to be fun. The cycling is not strenuous, but the views you’ll see, the people you’ll meet, and the food and drink you could sample on the way make them among our most popular cycle tours in Catalonia.

Distances range from 40km to 65km. The terrain is mostly flat, and cycling is away from the busy roads of the city. These tours are perfect for couples, small groups, and families.

Let’s start with the shortest route.

Tour and Taste

This coastal vineyard tour takes you away from the Barcelona and into the Serralada de Marina Natural Park. The ride is around 20km each way, with your day split by a visit to a family-run winery that is famous for producing some of the best wines and cava in Catalonia.

For fun-loving wine drinkers, this is the perfect day out.

The route follows a flat coastal path, though there is a little hill climbing before we reach the winery. Once at the winery, you will be treated to a 90-minute tour in the expert hands of winery guides. You’ll be able to stroll around the vineyards, visit the underground wine cellars, see where all the wine and cava is made, and sample a selection of their finest.

The views from Serralada de Marina are magnificent, and with a ride along beaches, a small hill climb, and a winery tour included, this really is a day tour not to be missed.

Catalonia Coastal

The Costa Brava is famed for its beaches and exceptional coastline, and this 65km Catalonia coastal cycle tour gives you a real flavour of why people flock to the Catalonian coast.

It’s a one-way, 50km ride out of Barcelona, returning by train.

During the tour, we travel south past the airport and into open countryside along the ‘coastal route’. We’ll cycle to the foot of the Garraf National Park, and make our way along the cliffside road. The views are tremendous here, looking inland to rural countryside, out to sea, and down to the picturesque seaside town of Sitges, our destination.

Enjoy refreshments on the beach before we board a train for the short journey back to Barcelona.

Catalan Countryside

Catalonia is not all about the coast. It is home to some of the most amazing countryside in Spain. Lush, green hills. Majestic mountains. Tree-lined country roads.

This 65km tour takes you out of Barcelona and into the Gallecs Protected Natural Area. Catalan countryside at its best. We head out along the coast road, before switching inland to follow the banks of the River Besos.

Ancient farmland has remained unchanged since the end of the age of the Roman Empire. The Catalans are proud of their heritage, and none more so than the region’s farmers. As you weave through the country lanes which are set among fields and farms, you’ll be surrounded by stunning mountains.

The return journey is relaxed, through the river valley and along the coast as we return to Barcelona.

If you want something a little more strenuous, we offer an extended countryside tour that includes a 7km medium-rated climb through the Serralada de Marina National Park, before descending through forest to the coastal route to Barcelona.

Make Your Catalan Holiday Extra Special

A holiday to Catalonia is always special, but include one or more of these single-day cycle tours and it will take on new meaning. Get out of the city, into the fresh air, and experience the real Catalonia. Places off the beaten track. Places you’ll want to visit again.
